Ballymacarbry Montessori School was set up in 2010 by
Miriam Hickey and Clodagh Burke to provide a preschool
service for the children of the local community.
|

|
Miriam
and Clodagh have over 12 years experience
teaching preschool children and have run very
successful Montessori services in Dublin and
Clonmel. They are both fully qualified
Montessori teachers and believe strongly in the
philosophy of Montessori. |
|

|
The
children are gently guided through a host of
subjects using our beautiful Montessori
materials. The concrete materials give the
child great confidence and a sound understanding
of the subject matter. The children are
encouraged to work at their own pace and all
aspects of the programme are child-centred, fun
and appropriate to their abilities. |

We offer a theme based curriculum so
children will learn new things in a fun
way. We will design our curriculum
in conjunction with the HSE Programme of
Care under the headings: Well
Being, Identity and Belonging,
Communication, Stories and books,
Exploring and thinking, Maths, Science,
Art and design, Technology and Music. |

We
encourage children, not only cognitively
with language, numbers and colour, but
also encourage independence and how to
work as part of a team. We both
believe strongly that the best
preparation for 'big school' is to learn
to be independent, to be able to
socialise well with their peers and
listen well to their teacher. We
also believe that children should have
lots of fun at pre-school and enjoy lots
of play, dress up, storytime, arts and
crafts, etc. |

At the
community centre, we have a purpose built
outdoor area for the children as well as plenty
of space for lots of running around and having
fun no matter what the weather! |
